6/14/08- 9:05pm
Barry was released after Montreal's first preseason game. What are
his thoughts as he traveled home today? "I'm leaving with the mentality
that it just wasn't meant for me to play here. I came in as determined
and driven as I've always been and I did what I had to do. In their
eyes, for some reason it wasn't good enough. I'm cool with that. I will
keep my head up and keep pressing. I'm going to make it... it's like
they say, I will die trying before I choose to give up." Barry is
committed to maintaining his training regimen and staying in shape for the
next shot he gets.
5/29/08- 6:32pm
With Montreal's training camp opening day approaching on June 1st,
Barry is eager to get into the full swing of things... back on the field
sporting a numerical identity well-known to him: his high-school and
college jersey number, 34, which he was issued earlier today. With high
hopes of success in the CFL being manifested by the high expectations
placed on him, he's looking forward to the days ahead and working hard
toward his goal... finishing this season having made a name for himself
in this league with a winning record and championship story to tell his
kids when he returns home.
5/27/08- 9:28am
Barry left his home in Ruston, LA this morning destined for the place
he will call home for the next six months, Montreal, Quebec where he
will be impacting the linebacker corps for the Montreal Alouettes of the
Canadian Football League, Lord willing. It's a long way from his wife of
seven years, Kathleen, and his children, but being that he played for
the Hamburg Seadevils of NFL Europa as well as the New York Giants last
year, he's no stranger to long stints away from home and expresses that
he is definitely up for the challenge.
"I was away for a majority of 2007 playing ball so I know it's
going to be tough, but I also know I am an athlete and it takes being
away from home to put food on the table. My family has sacrificed a lot
over the years through all my hits-and-misses while I have pursued my
football career and I've been blessed to have the full support of my
wife no matter how tough things got and the favor of God to provide when
I couldn't... I'm hoping this opportunity with Montreal will give me a
chance to finally secure my place on a solid team and be able to provide
for my kids. Plus, I've got two championship rings and I'm
looking to add a third after the 2008 Grey Cup. [My career] is all in
the hands of the Big Man Upstairs now. We'll see where He takes it from
here! I'm competitive and football is in my blood... it's in my bones.
Everything happens for a reason, and I'm just looking forward to seeing
what's in store this season."
3/18/08- 6:28pm
Barry has officially signed with the Montreal Alouettes. Keep him in
your prayers! He will soon be reporting to training camp in anticipation
of the team's 2008 pre-season kick off on June 12, 2008.
3/13/08- 9:05pm
The following news came from the AAFL offices this afternoon:
ALL AMERICAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE® POSTPONES INAUGURAL SEASON UNTIL
2009
March 13, 2008 ATLANTA, GA -- The All American Football League® (AAFL)
announced today the postponement of its inaugural season until 2009.
The League will continue to build upon the foundation that has been
established, and will continue to discuss opportunities with
potential investors.
Since this news broke, Robertson has reached a deal with the Canadian
Football League. After much dialog with Defensive Line Coach,
Michael Sinclair, the terms of Robertson's contract have been
verbally agreed upon between Robertson and Montreal Alouettes VP,
General Manager, Director of Football Operations and Director of Player
Personnel,
Jim Popp. The contract between the Canadian League's Montreal team
and Barry Robertson will be signed within the coming days.
1/28/08- 1:41pm
Robertson and his wife, Kathleen, attended the AAFL draft party
Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Embassy Suites in Little Rock, AR. Barry
and the rest of the protected players were presented to local fans and
media prior to the start of the draft, which was broadcasted live from
each of the six AAFL team Draft Day headquarters. Good luck to all of
the players selected during the AAFL's protection and draft process. We
look forward to an exciting first season starting Spring 2008!
1/21/08- 5:09pm
Barry has been informed that he is one of the players who have been
protected by the AAFL's Arkansas team. He will travel to AR for the
draft this weekend along with several other protected players for public
relations on behalf of the developing team. Robertson is excited about
the opportunity and looking forward to picking up his football career
playing for the All American Football League's Arkansas team when they
kick off their very first season in an April 12 opener against Texas.
1/9/08- 6:57am
Robertson will be submitting game film to the AAFL's Michigan team as
requested by their Director of Football Operations. He has also
completed the AAFL Draft Eligibility Background Information Check. Keep
him in your prayers for good luck and success with his AAFL
opportunities. Barry hopes to be able to begin a career with this new
league in the coming months.
1/7/08- 6:57am
Robertson participated in the drills for the AAFL's Arkansas team
tryout where Ron Calcagni serves as head coach. "This invitation-only
workout for Arkansas’ All-American Football League franchise was the
team’s first step in formulating a final roster for the April 12 season
opener against Texas." (click
here for article)
The tryout went well; Robertson was one of the few they selected for
a second workout that afternoon. He has received positive feedback and
feels good about the possibility of potentially being a part of the
team. What makes Arkansas a perfect team for him? "Well, this place is
only 4 hours away from home. Getting to see my family often is a nice
plus to a great job!" He is hoping to become one of Arkansas' protected players - the
team must select a minimum of 15 players out of a talented pool of
alumni from Arkansas and Louisiana colleges by January 18th. If
Robertson happens to not be one of those bodies, he's anyone's man once
January 25th rolls around when the AAFL's 10-round draft will be held in
Atlanta. Ironically, Arkansas also has the first pick in the draft.
12/27/07- 9:03pm
Barry has been invited to participate in the All American Football
League's Arkansas Team tryout on January 5, 2008. As of Christmas Day,
he has confirmed his intent to attend.
12/12/07- 11:53am
Barry has shown an expressed interest in the new All American
Football League which will begin its first season of play in April 2008.
He applied and was accepted to both the Knoxville and Dallas regional
tryouts, but was unfortunately not able to make it to either of them due
to scheduling conflicts. Barry says, "I had planned on making it to one
or the other; it didn't work out though and I hope I get another shot.
With it being a new league, I'm not sure how things go or when their
deadlines are so it's just up in the air at this point, but I'm
definitely open to any opportunity to play ball."
When asked about the comparison of this league to his experience in
the NFL's European league, he made the following comments: "I enjoyed
NFL Europe because every player on every team had a goal - making it to
the NFL. They played with heart and put everything on the line for it.
That is pretty much what I expect out of this league - a bunch of guys
who are playing for the love of the game and because they have a bigger
dream. I was one of those guys. We pushed through the blood, sweat, and
tears and we came out World Bowl Champions - forever, now that the
league is shut down. That's a great feeling, ya know? Playing. Just to
win. Winning brought exposure - and exposure brought the potential for
success at a higher level. Now, I'm not saying I don't want another shot
at the NFL; I just love the game and would play anywhere I get the
chance. I think the AAFL would be a great place to be
around other guys who just love the game and want to play for a win -
whether it be for exposure or just for the game - and not just for a
dollar." Then he laughingly adds, "I'm sure the money's not bad either,
though! It's gotta be more than what we made in Europe."
In reference to the AAFL's strict position on eligibility
requirements, particularly the fact that they will only pick up players
who have completed a four-year degree, Robertson had this to say: "I
think it is a great idea. A lot of the players that go through college
sports struggled through a lot of things to get those papers and I think
it gives us a sense of accomplishment to have to present them in order
to get the job. Me and my wife had four children by the time I graduated
and we suffered some hard times and it took a lot of will and
determination and just hard work to stay in school. I'm proud to be a
college grad and I think it sends a good message to college athletes:
football isn't everything; you have to have something to fall back on if
your dreams don't work out. You gotta have that degree. You gotta be
realistic. Now, it's just an added plus that in this league, even though
football IS everything, you still need that paper!"
Well said. Good luck, Barry.
11/8/07- 6:12pm
Barry and his wife, Kathleen, are expecting a new baby on July 2,
2008. Congratulations to the Robertson Family! Barry celebrates his 26th
birthday on the 30th of this month.
9/18/07- 3:01pm
Robertson saw minimal playing time during his participation in the
Giants first preseason game against the Panthers on August 11 and ended
with 1 solo tackle and 1 assist. During the NFL Europe season while
playing for the Hamburg SeaDevils, Robertson received a deep laceration
to his knee resulting in a 3 week stint on injured reserve. Subsequent
to the August 11th preseason game against the Carolina Panthers,
Robertson was diagnosed with a moderately severe case of patellar
tendonitis believed to be caused by a combination of overuse from
playing a full football season before reporting to Giant's training camp
and the prior injury, which hadn't been given enough rest time to heal.
Robertson was released by the Giants after coming to a mutual contract
settlement agreement and is home with an 8-week physical therapy
prescription. No other details are available at this time.
7/26/07 - 11:06pm
Barry arrived in Albany, New Jersey at 10:23pm. Giants'
training camp begins Friday, July 27, 2007. Updates and photos
will be available soon. The Giants' first preseason game is
against the Carolina Panthers on August 11, 2007. Robertson has
been assigned # 54.

3/18/07- 8:31pm
All NFL Europe updates will be posted here.
2/25/07- 11:42pm
Barry has been allocated to NFL Europe and was drafted
5th round, 5th pick in the NFLE draft on Friday, February 23, 2007.
"NFL Europe Team Allocations: It was announced by the Giants
a couple of weeks ago that five Giants were assigned to NFL
Europe. Yesterday, the specific European teams that these five
players will play for were announced:
- Amsterdam Admirals: HB Cedric Humes
- Berlin Thunder: TE Charles Davis
- Frankfurt Galaxy: HB DeCori Birmingham
- Hamburg Sea Devils: DT Sir Henry Anderson, LB Barry
Robertston
Robertson was actually drafted by the Sea Devils in the
5th round of the 2007 NFL Europe Draft. The other four
players were assigned." [Source

Robertson will be leaving March 8th for physicals in New York, then to
Tampa for a 3 week training camp before arriving in Hamburg Germany
where he will play for the SeaDevils. All NFLE games are televised
in the United States on DirecTV.

2/11/07- 11:15pm
Barry has accepted a contract offer extended by the New York Football
Giants. Dialog between the Club and Robertson since mid-January
led to the execution of the contract between the two on February 6,
2007.
BigBlueInteractive.com: LB BARRY ROBERTSON (Street Free
Agent): Robertson was signed by the Giants as a street free agent in
February 2007. He was invited to the Giants' rookie mini-camp after the
2006 NFL Draft, but he was not offered a contract at that time. As a
senior at Louisiana Tech in 2005, Robertson was voted team captain and
finished the season with 103 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 interception, and 6
pass defenses. In six of his 11 starts, he finished the game with
double-digit tackle totals. Robertson is a decent athlete but he lacks
ideal size and speed. In college, he was an aggressive, instinctive, and
productive player.
2/5/07- 12:01am
Keep checking back... there will be new information posted within the
coming weeks. At this time, none of the details can be disclosed,
but updates will be made soon. Keep Barry and his family in your
prayers! There is a promising road ahead...
11/22/06- 11:38pm
Barry will be pursuing an opportunity to play with an NFL team in the
upcoming year. He says: "I did my best in
everything concerning football, but in the end it didn't work out the
way that we hoped it would. My
plan was to do what I had to do and try again next year, and after a
while I thought I had decided that I didn't want it anymore... I thought
the love for the game had diminished, but the more time passes by, I
know that I need to be on that field. God
bless everybody who was behind me. I will graduate in a couple of
months and in the meantime I will be keeping in shape and do what
it takes to make things happen. That's what I do. I make
things happen."
7/26/06- 4:59pm
Barry is still awaiting an opportunity to showcase his talents by
joining an NFL team in their camp. His injury has healed nicely
and he is in wonderful shape physically and is mentally prepared for
this challenge. Since the conclusion of the season, Barry has
added a solid 23 pounds to his frame, taking him from a moderate 221
pounds to a stout 244 over the last few months. Barry says, "God
has been good to me. At first it was very frustrating having to
sit out and wait, but I keep reminding myself I've had to be patient
before and I know God's got something ahead for me and my family.
I want it to be football because I love it, but I don't control my
destiny and our purpose is deeper than just getting what we want.
If it happens, I'll work harder than I ever have. If it doesn't, I
will have to work even harder than that." While waiting, Barry has
continued to work out and run daily, maintaining a healthy diet, and
adding swimming to his weekly regimen.
6/8/06- 12:09am
Barry's follow-up x-ray is scheduled for Monday, 6/12/06 at 9:30am.
We are still very optimistic about his opportunity to to
make an even larger impression than was made initially and ultimately to
earn his keep at Giant Stadium. There will be additional updates
when more information is available!
5/22/06- 11:33am
Barry fractured his hand during practice at Giant Stadium on 5/13/06
during the morning practice. It's hard to keep him off the field
with anything short of a broken leg, so he practiced that evening
thinking perhaps it was a simple sprain, attended the meetings, and
studied the playbook... Monday 5/15/06 he found out that his hand was in
fact fractured and he was sent home Tuesday morning with instructions to
run and get into the best shape possible for the weeks that it would
take for his injury to heal. It has been 9 days since his injury
and he has received word that the Giants do have intentions to fly him
back to camp once he has been released from the doctor, provided that
there is a roster spot available. He is
hopeful that will happen soon so that he is able to get
back to New Jersey and work on securing a contract.
5/2/06- 4:06pm
Barry was not selected during the 2006 NFL Draft, but is optimistic
about his opportunity for a future in the NFL and is now awaiting a
contract offer as an undrafted free agent or camp invitation.
Teams that have shown interest at this point include the New York Jets,
Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New
York Giants.
3/31/06- 9:14pm
This morning, Barry had what would be considered a semi-private
workout along with Byron Santiago, Tramon Williams, Matt Kubik, and
Ladarius Love for the New York Jets at the Louisiana Tech University
campus. It went well, concluded with a film study session and
several questions for each of the players. At this point, there is
slightly under a month until the 2006 NFL Draft.
3/25/06- 7:27pm
LA Tech's first Pro Day has come to a close, the results of which can
be accessed by visiting the Pro Day Drills
page or by visiting the Monroe
News Star's article covering the event, written by Scott Beder.
The next (and final) Pro Day for Louisiana Tech's players will be this
coming Friday, March 31, 2006. The next few days will simply be
spent in preparation for the last chance to impress NFL scouts before
the 2006 Draft.
3/17/06- 4:35pm
Training has come to a close... with Pro Day only a week away, Barry
will simply be 'maintaining' for the next 7 days. Workouts will be
light from here on out and will consist mainly of sprints on the track
and practicing drills on the practice field at LA Tech. He is
still weighing in at a solid 237-238, but says he feels 'lighter' so we
are confident that running with these additional pounds will be no
problem. He is anxious for March 24 to arrive and can't wait to
show the scouts what he has worked so hard to achieve.
3/8/06- 2:02pm
Barry is doing extremely well in his training
and is very confident that things will work out in his favor on Pro Day. He
has been focused and working steadily toward his goals... He finds it to be
a struggle sometimes, wondering if his best
is good enough and not knowing what the people in control of his career think
of him, but it is becoming more
about relying on faith to keep a sound mind through everything that
is going on. As for now, his focus is on making it onto an NFL
roster, and doing it as BIG as possible. Training will wrap up Friday,
March 17, 2006 at which time the only thing left to do is wait, wonder, and
pray.
3/6/06- 7:19pm
Barry is weighing in at 238, 17 pounds more than the 221 he weighed
at the conclusion of his 2005 college season.
2/28/06- 3:25pm
Barry was clocked in the 40-yard dash today...
the result will not be disclosed at this time. Only about four more weeks until
Pro Day. He has been told at this
point that as long as he runs a 4.7 or better, he should be drafted. We
are very optimistic that will happen!
2/17/06- 7:00pm
The first week is over. It has been tough
to say the least... training is strenuous, but it will pay off.
Barry is
getting used to the workout and is beginning to enjoy himself.
2/12/06- 1:00pm
Barry will begin training at Plex
tomorrow in order to get ready for Pro
Day. They have an extremely competent staff with experienced trainers
and a program that has been proven effective time and time again.
